When to clean ?
Check fringe condition .. indicator of what is happening to whole area.
Note of caution..Cleaning systems designed for commercial grade synthetic wall to wall carpet are often inappropriately used.. can be overkill to natural fibers and vegetable dyes. Also.. prespray chemicals can weaken dyes too.
Pet deposits and heavy traffic situations need more intense cleaning. Heat and chemicals weaken
natural dyes and cause shrinkage. What to do ?
Our 3100psi PoweRinse versus typical 300 psi (faucet pressure)systems..
is monumentally more powerful yet safe.
When to clean ? Consider the parlor rug with little activity on it . Meanwhile the living room ..the same type of rug..is getting the more traffic.
Which rug would need cleaning sooner? The one used more often.
EXCEPTION..Suppose the moderate traffic rug is close to cooking odors or other odor contributors. Best way to spot these culprits.. often offensive to visitors..is after a a period of time away.. like a vacation.. when your sense smell is more aware of those 'offensive to guests' odors. If guilty ..get it cleaned.
Spotting moth activity..Those 'rice hull' looking things you see under sofas and othe secluded places are evidence of moth hatchlings that hungrily feed on the rug while in the seclusion and privacy of those hard to vaccum places. The larvae love to eat wool and if left undisturbed for too long can cause major holes.
Vacuum regularly with attachments in hard to get at places. Toss in some cedar blocks or a little natural cedar oil not sprayed
directly. Careful / aerosol cedar scent sprays..can cause loose dyes which can bleed out during cleaning process. So do not spray too close or too long in one spot.. Its the cedar scent that repels
mother moth . If you are concerned that you might be allergic to cedar then contact an allergy specialist. Try to avoid moth balls if you are trying to discourage moth activity in your personal
environment. Not good for your health. In storage situations away from personal environment use them sparingly. The moth ball odor can stubbornly cling to rugs after storage.
How to check condition:
1. Pick up corner of rug. Hold it .. kick it. If a cloud of dirt flies out. Get it cleaned .. Its time.
2. Kneel down on the rug. Rub it vigorously with your hand in a short arc five to ten seconds. Look at your fingers and palm.. if your hand
is dirty the rug needs cleaning. (Personally I would use an old towel)
3. With pile facing up fold part of rug back upon itself so that the pile opens along a line of knots. Look down into the base of the pile. If the warp and weft appear dirty.. there is dirt deep down in there where a vacuum cleaner can not reach.. and of course The rug needs cleaning.
TO PROPERLY LAY THE RUG :
Moderate traffic areas:
Viewing room from entrance the knap is smoothing away not roughing up as you enter room. Better highlights. Better look.
Heavier traffic :
To save wear on same pathways. Reverse wear. Turn it around.
